Trust & safety
Renting means handing a valuable outfit to someone you have not met, or sending money for one. These are the specific mechanisms that make that a reasonable thing to do — and what to do on the rare occasion something goes wrong.
Payments are held, not handed over
The single most important thing to understand: your payment does not go straight to the seller. It sits with the platform until the rental is done.
Funds held through the rental
Payment is collected at checkout and held against the order rather than passed straight to the seller. Payout happens after the rental completes — that is what makes a refund or a dispute outcome actually enforceable.
Refundable security deposits
Where a seller requires a deposit, it is held and released once the return inspection clears. A seller cannot simply keep it; a deduction requires an approved claim.
Full refund on a declined order
If a seller declines your booking or cannot fulfil the dates, the order is cancelled and refunded in full. You are never charged for a rental that did not happen.
Accountability on both sides
Trust on a marketplace is not a feeling — it is a set of records that make it hard to misbehave without it being visible.
Verified contact details
Accounts carry a verified phone number, and sellers handling business volume provide business and tax registration details. Anonymous accounts do not transact here.
Real listings, real garments
Sellers are required to photograph the actual outfit they are renting out and to disclose its flaws. Stock imagery and invented measurements are grounds for removal.
Conversations stay on-platform
In-app chat keeps the whole exchange attached to the order, so support can read what was actually agreed instead of relying on screenshots.
Handover codes for pickup
Local pickup orders use one-time codes at collection and return, so an outfit is only handed to the person who actually booked it.
Full audit trail
Confirmation, dispatch, delivery, return and inspection are each timestamped against the order, with who did what. Disputes are decided on that record.
Moderation and removal
Counterfeit, illegal, misleading and unhygienic listings are removed, and repeat breaches end the account behind them.
How a dispute is actually resolved
Most rentals are uneventful. When one is not, there is a defined route rather than an argument in a chat window.
- 01
Raise it on the order
Report the problem from the order page as soon as you notice it — the wrong item, damage in transit, a late or failed delivery, an outfit not as described. Do it before your event, not after.
- 02
Both sides submit evidence
Photographs, timestamps and the in-app message history. For a damage claim that means condition photographs from before dispatch and immediately after return.
- 03
Admin review
Our team reviews the claim against the order’s recorded history and both sides’ evidence. Claims without evidence do not carry.
- 04
Resolution
The outcome is applied to the money already held on the order — a refund, a release of the deposit, or a deduction against an approved damage claim.
The full process, including what evidence carries weight and the categories of claim, is set out on the dispute resolution page.
Red flags worth reporting
These are the patterns behind essentially every bad experience on a rental marketplace. If you see one, stop and report it.
Asked to pay off-platform
A bank transfer, an Easypaisa number, cash "to avoid the fee". This is the number one red flag and it voids all protection.
Pushed into WhatsApp early
Wanting to leave in-app chat before an order exists usually means someone wants no record of what was promised.
Refusing extra photographs
An honest seller will happily photograph a detail or a flaw for you. Reluctance means the listing photos are not the item.
Pressure over your dates
"Pay now or lose it" for an event months away is a tactic, not a scarcity problem.
Price far below the market
A designer piece at a fraction of every comparable listing is usually a replica or does not exist.
Vague on what is included
If a seller will not confirm in writing what actually ships, assume the accessories in the photograph do not.
Safety questions
Why should I not pay a seller directly?
Because every protection described on this page runs through the order. Pay outside RentNShine and there is no held payment to refund, no deposit to release, no order record to review, and no claim route. If a seller asks you to pay off-platform, decline and report them.
What counts as damage rather than normal wear?
Wearing an outfit for an evening leaves ordinary traces, and that is expected and not claimable. Damage means tears, burns, stains that cannot be cleaned out, missing components, alterations made without permission, or loss of the item.
The outfit arrived and it is not what was listed. What now?
Report it from the order page immediately, with photographs of what actually arrived, before the event. That timing matters — a report made the day of delivery is treated very differently from one made a week later.
How is my personal information handled?
Contact and address details are shared with the other party only to the extent an order requires — for delivery or pickup. Full detail is in our privacy policy.
Someone is behaving badly. How do I report them?
Report the user or listing from the order or listing page, or contact us at info@rentnshine.com. Reports about safety, counterfeits, and attempts to move payment off-platform are the ones we act on fastest.
What if the courier loses the parcel?
Delivery failures are logged against the order and handled as a delivery dispute. Because the payment is still held by the platform at that point, a failed delivery does not leave you out of pocket while it is sorted out.

Something not right?
